Settled In

crawling

The last few weeks, in spite of Ruth's amazing strides in destructivity, I feel at home in parenthood. Yes, it can be restrictive on one's social life and sleeping habits. Yes, sometimes I long for adult conversation. Yes, sometimes I wallow in frustration and misery at my own unfulfilled desires and needs (sometimes as basic as a trip to the bathroom).

But this is what I signed up for. This is my new mission and purpose. It's constantly changing, and won't last forever. Each stage, each child will be a world unto its own.

I'm already feeling nostalgic. A few weeks ago, you'll remember I announced that first-level crawling took place. I'm happy(?) to report that we now have pulling-self-up-to-standing well underway. We've had an increased number of "bonkyhead" incidents, but with no visible damage thus far.

Oh, and did I mention that we have two teeth with one of her uppers on the way?

She still doesn't sleep through the night. She still won't take a pacifier. She's still an angel in the morning and a devil at night. We still co-sleep (though she makes it about halfway through the night in the crib). We're still babyproofing.

About that; I'm now thoroughly convinced that there is no such thing as a baby-proof house. I think when you hear the word "baby-proof" you should realize that the only way to assuredly "baby-proof" is by enclosing your child in a plastic hamster bubble.

Favorite picture of the now (unstaged, I swear):

So I feel more comfortable with my new change in life, to the fact that I've taken on duties that aren't going to go away anytime soon, if ever. It's nice to know that eventually she'll talk, eventually she'll stop wearing diapers, and that it will be a beautiful, difficult, rewarding journey.
